XVI Tertio Millennio Film Fest
Rome, 4th – 9th December 2012
Cinema Trevi – Cineteca Nazionale CSC, Vicolo del Puttarello, 25
Nature is undoubtedly, as understood in its title: “Between heaven and earth”, the main theme of the XVI Tertio Millennio Film Fest. The return to Nature, the missing of Nature, the fear of Nature. “This year, right from the beginning we thought about a pressing theme. The common denominator in all the films we have chosen is the relationship between man, nature and faith. In addition to favoring previews, restorations, undistributed films and those which have remained invisible – those films which have not been able to enjoy the circulation deserved in cinemas – we above all desired to recuperate that submersed cinema which in our opinion merited the attention of the public”, says Dario E. Viganò, President of the Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo. And yet: “The countryside is bare, the water treacherous, the forest a maze. Judging by the stories and images which we have chosen this year we wonder if a human habitat still exists out there. Or if it has ever existed. Or if the elements, the phenomena, the animals haven’t plotted together to send man elsewhere, into exile beyond the ends of the earth. At first glance it may seem like an out of date theme, untrendy.” (Dario Edoardo Viganò – President of the Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo).
The Tertio Millennio Film Fest is the first festival created under the patronage of the Vatican. It is organized by the Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo presided by Dario Edoardo Viganò and by the «Rivista del Cinematografo», also directed by him. It is edited in collaboration with the Pontifical Councils for Culture and Social Communications, with the Experimental Center of Cinematography – National Film Library, with the contribution of the General Directorate for Cinema of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities.
The President of the Italian Republic, Giorgio Napolitano, has given the XVI edition and the precedents of the “Tertio Millennio Film Fest” its representation plate.
Collateral Event XVI Tertio Millennio Film Fest
IX International Conference – Art in Soul
27th November – 1st December 2011, Grottaferrata and Frascati
Once again this year, the Festival was preceded by an important collateral event. On the occasion of the Year of Faith, declared by Pope Benedict XVI with the Apostolic Letter Porta fidei, from 27 November to 1st December in numerous, prestigious locations in Grottaferrata and Frascati, outside Rome, took place the XI year of the International Conference on spirituality, entitled: Art in Soul. The dream of a good life. Signs. Challenges. Horizons. The Conference, organized by the Association “Art Promotion” in partnership with the Tertio Millennio Film Fest, and authorized by the Ministry of Instruction, University and Research as an ongoing training course, involved teachers and professors from all sectors, initiating an authentic dialogue on urgent matters, the Welfare crisis, at the center of which lies the moral degradation of the Powers in place, and was aimed at those, especially in the new generations, deeply feel the urgency of spirituality. The analysis path has transversally touched cinema, theater, art, literature, but also mathematical sciences, philosophy and theology, to reach the definition of a Welfare Society that would save its own dignity and that of the creatures which compose it, lost today in the fragmentation of social and cultural norms, in an ever growing pluralism of ideologies, identities and emotional relations. “The meaning of our partnership can be understood from the title of the Conference. ‘Art in Soul’ is what we are attempting to promote every day, through our cinematographic, journalistic and cultural activity. I must say that I am satisfied by this renewed synergy, in the name of an art which is close to the spiritual world”.
When music meets the Faith
On Saturday 13th October at 8.00 pm the Note di fede (Notes of Faith) concert took place. The concert was organized by Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo in Santa Lucia del Gonfalone Church, Rome. The event, conducted by Domenico Musso, has seen the succession of musical pieces taken from soundtracks of famous films, performed by the Musical Group “San Luigi” of Vedano al Lambro, on the occasion of their Foundation’s 90th Anniversary. The event was opened with the welcoming greetings by Father Franco Incampo, Rector of the Santa Lucia del Gonfalone Church, followed by the journalist Dina d’Isa, expert on cinema for the national newspaper «Il Tempo» – who introduced the evening, during which Renato Meregalli, mayor of Vedano al Lambro, also intervened. The event closed with the speech of Mons. Dario E. Viganò, President of the Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo, whose contribution has also highlighted the close link between cinema, music and faith.
