The contest “Nati nel Tertio Millennio”, proposed by Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo for the high schools of all Italy has been concluded and the winning schools have been selected. The initiative is part of a project sponsored by the national cinema plan for schools of the MIUR (Ministry of Education) and MiBAC (Ministry of Culture) which will end in December 2019 with the participation in the “Tertio Millennio Film Fest”.

The students of the second and third year (school year 2018/2019) of the second-level secondary schools were asked to present a plot for a short video about the theme of the “Tertio Millennio Film Fest” entitled “I am, you are”, to show the acceptance of diversity and the acknowledgement of the uniqueness of each single person.

Among the many proposals received, the following have been awarded for their adherence to the theme and creativity: class V B of Liceo “Caminiti – Trimarchi” of Santa Teresa di Riva, province of Messina, class IV A of the private School “Maria Immacolata” of Rome and class III E of Liceo “Paolo Borsellino e Giovanni Falcone” of Zagarolo, province of Rome.

“The proposal of the Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo has reached both big cities and small towns, turning on the creativity of many young students – declares Davide Milani, president of the Fondazione with satisfaction – and now it is up to us to provide these students with the tools to go from creativity to responsibility in the use of an audiovisual language based on the respect for other people”.

Once the winning schools have been selected, we get into the hearth of the project, with a training course consisting in a theoretical and a practical phase, with lessons, shootings and final video editing, offered by Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo in cooperation with the Libera Università del Cinema of Rome.

Moreover, the students will take part in the Tertio Millennio Film Fest as members of the jury in the short film contest, giving the Special Young Award to the short film that they will choose during the award ceremony taking place in the evening of Thursday, 12 December. On this occasion, the students will also have the opportunity to speak to and discuss with the historical professionals of cinema and the young talents, among which the President of the Jury of the short film contest, film director Phaim Bhuiyan.

Instead, the Award ceremony for schools will take place in the morning of Friday, 13 December, at the Casa del Cinema of Rome.

“Students will be the protagonists of the Tertio Millennio Film Fest, the flagship of the cultural production of the Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo – concludes Davide Milani – real “budding film critics”, able to interpret the audiovisual language with new tools to read the world through films”.

“Nati nel Tertio Millennio” represents a specific development with actions towards the young people of the Film Festival on the interreligious dialogue “Tertio Millennio”, which will be held in Rome from 10 to 13 December 2019. Now on its XXIII year, the “Tertio Millennio Film Fest” was born with the aim of creating an opportunity for intercultural dialogue on different aspects of humanity.

In the project addressed to young people, two different dimensions can be found: enjoyment and production, along an articulated educational project in which students are not simple recipients of the activities, but active protagonists. They will learn through practice and get to know different aspects of cinema, taking part in the film festival as members of the jury for the evaluation of the short films in competition.
