The story, set in the Mexican countryside of Chihuaha, tells the story of Johan, who belongs to the mennonita community and strictly obeys the rules of his religion. Johan, married with seven children, lives a passionate love story with Marianne, a woman who has nothing to do with his cultural universe. Although he is aware that he is disobeying his sound religious principals and causing outrage and disappointment in his father, a mennonita preacher, Johan believes that it is practically impossible to choose between two women, two ways of life that are completely different.
